Treasure, 4 days, and Vacation!

I have slowed down a lot this week, on both my etsy and my blog. Gearing up for Steamcon II has been taking over everything! So from now till next Monday. I am officially putting the blog and the Etsy store on vacation! I will try to update both during that time, but no guarantees! I'll check both while I am gone, to make sure I message anyone that may buy something within that time. I'll make sure to post a ton of photos and talk about everything when I get back!

In other news, we went again this Saturday to my Great Grandparents old house to help clean more. While it overwhelmed a lot of my family (there was a lot in the place) the whole thing didnt seem to bother me. We did a ton of cleaning, and made it almost ready to estate sale everything that wasnt kept or moved with my Great Grandmother.

I got some fun smaller things, mostly for jewelry making and such:

I also got a wood crate with great graphics, a vase, and a army bag:

Plus these, they are my very favorites:

Today I went to my Boyfriends family get togeather, and that was a good time! Tomorrow it is back to school and finishing up some more projects for Steamcon II!!

Weekend Thrifting!

Another busy weekend! Skipped school on Friday to work, and Saturday was full of awesomeness! Mom and I met with the Knitting Ladies on Saturday to go thrifting, and go to lunch. It was an all day affair, but so worth it! We went to Value Village, and a couple more local thrift stores, plus lunch at The Elk Public House. So good!

Awesome vintage domed frame. The dried flowers were a plus too, all in one piece! For now at least, I plan on putting something in it eventually.

Another train baby vase! I love these things, they are a terrible addiction. Sometime I'll have to post a photo of all the ones I have so far. It's so weird how collections manifest themselves. It always starts with one right?

Awesome, awesome, wool plaid button up shirt. Very Coco (Chanel) in her yearly years. Mom and I are "sharing" this one.

Another Alice book! Most the time, Alice manifests itself in threes. This time I broke it, I bought this necklace on Etsy, then the book showed up, but nothing came up as a third this time.

This...well I don't know what it was, or was supposed to be, but it is going to be skirts. Its a good cotton, with elastic already in it, easy and a great silhouette for a skirt. Plus IU am going to try my hand at some dying and embellishing on a couple of them. It should make 4-5 skirt I think. So thats a lot of playing! Some will go to my Etsy too!

I love full skirts. My problem is, full skirts are always to long, or mostly just not quite the way I want them. So most the time I find broomstick skirts that are in good condition and chop them in half. Then make a new waistband for the bottom and they are perfect. Nice full, above the knee skirts! That is what this one is going to turn into.
The fact that I was brought up thrifting, and learning to make old into new is something I am so happy my parents did. I love the hunt in the thrift store, and I love the product when I have made it my own. Vintage and used items have history, and that makes them even better.

Treasure hunting!

Skipped my second class today and went to a couple thrift stores instead! Halloween is the best time for thrifting, all the stores around here bring out their weird/vintage items. We also went to a wonderful little hole in the wall flea market!

At the flea market, I got a locket:

Some vintage fans:

And some trinkets:

At the thrift store i got:

New in the shop! Handspun yarns!

More handspun yarn posted in the shop! I'll have some new vintage items up later in the week!

Thrifting, Baking and Being Busy!

Its been a long weekend! I am one week closer to Steamcon, and one project less! Every time I finish a client project is the best feeling. We are getting so close, and I can't wait to see all the work pay off!

My dad got his major Steamcon project done this past week, Dr.Steel in steel! Its for propaganda and its going to be amazing sitting on the Toy soldiers table! More on my Flickr

Steel in steel front

I also went to Vallue Village on Friday! I hadn't been in a couple weeks, which is long for me. I got a really pretty green scarf, a kinda creepy cool boot/train vase, and some pokemon sheets (dont laugh, they are awesome!).

I did a lot of cleaning and photo taking this weekend, I felt like everything needed cleaned! I got photos of some more things to put on Etsy, they should be up this evening and tomorrow.

I also got a chance today to try out a recipe of Bakerella's. I really want to make some cake pops but I dont have much time lately to try those types of things. So i made these:
Well, those are hers, mine didn't look as pretty, they tasted awesome though! These are her Mini Maple Pancake Muffins. They are really quick and easy too!

These are mine. I filled them to full, and had to cook them longer. They were done but they didn't ever get nice and golden brown like hers. Well better luck next time, they sure tasted good!

Halloween is next week! I am really excited for that, it's my favorite holiday. Next week will be full of fun, with the Rocky Horror Glee show, Graphic Design Halloween party, a midnight Rocky Horror Picture Show, and a dress up day at the museum.

Lots of fun things! Can't wait!

Experiments

The busy keeps on going! Working on some of the final projects for Steamcon and my Client.  I also played for the first time with the idea of printing on fabric from a printer using freezer paper. I want to do clothing tags for my work and I love the idea of being able to design my own patches, etc.

This was just test number one, I used old fabric I had around and simple vectors for a project I am working on.  It was to light of a fabric and one sheet had a problem with the printer because of that. You also have to worry a lot about making sure that the whole sheet is cut as exact as possible. I'm still going to use the sheets I have printed, I kind of like the way they turned out!

Im gonna go pick up some other fabric and try again tomorrow!

10.10.10

I understand it only comes around once every forever, but it was just another day for me.

One of our local thrift stores moved, so I went to the new location on Sunday. There was a lot of neat stuff, some over priced, some decent. I only got one thing, but it is awesome!

(Wow, someone needs to teach me not to take photos at night in my room, they are terrible!)

We also went to Goodwill, I don't go there much but I am sure glad I went when I did!

I got a sweater:

With POODLES on it. It's amazing.

Then I went home and worked on stuff for my client and stuff for me. Mostly stuff for me. And my desk exploded.

And I made myself these:

For being any other day, I guess my 10.10.10 wasn't to bad!

Unintentional treasure hunting.

After the Terrain opening on Friday, which was a completely amazing and staying up till 2 AM, I got up at 8 in the morning to meet the rest of my family at my Great-Grandparents house on the other side of town. My Great-Grandpa passed a little while ago, and since then my Great-Grandma has moved in with my Grandma. They have been slowly going through the main floor of the house to figure out what is going to move and eventually be sold.

My Great-Grandpa was a Jeweler. The whole basement of the house was where all the jewelry, stones, machines, etc was for years. So all the family got together to move out all the stones and everything business related. There was so much! He had collected huge amounts of raw stones over the years, processed a ton of them, but even after passing, there was so much hiding in his basement.

Everyone in our family was aloud to ask to have something if they came across something in the basement that was of interest. Well I got a couple of things of sentimental value, a couple things for my Etsy shop, and way back in a corner of a cabinet was a box of old costume jewelry.

I got to have his trunk from when he was in the military (he lied about his age to join at about 16!), and an old fabric measuring tape that belonged to him. Plus this completely blank record book.

A few things for My Shop

And all this. I spent a whole evening cleaning everything up.
There were some beautiful pieces, and a lot of parts of pieces, one of a set of earrings, etc. All of it is going to be either kept and worn, or turned into another piece of jewelry and added to my Etsy shop.
I am so excited for all of this and can't wait to start working on some new things! What a way to unintentionally treasure hunt!
